S.M.O.L.

S.M.O.L. is a bestiary designed specifically for Troika! and is inspired by dreams, bad puns, 70s sci-fi, 80s cartoons, and a desire to fulfill my childhood goal of writing my own manual of monsters.

Inside you’ll find:

• 36 (d66) monsters, one monster per page.
• Three categories (undead, demonic and magical) with 12 monsters per category.
• A range of difficulty for each category, from small beasts to big bads.
• A hand-drawn pen-and-ink illustration for each monster.
• Tables for generating random monster encounters, including stats for quick reference.
• 20 new spells for powerful monsters.
• Stats and special abilities based on existing Troika! rules. 
• Unique miens for every monster. 
• Plenty of spot illustrations.
• Easy to read layout.

This zine began with the artwork, when I started drawing tiny monsters for a personal Fighting Fantasy character sheet. I decided only to allow myself to draw on graph paper, ink directly over the pencils, and keep the size to about four to six squares. I stuck to these rules for every illustration in this zine. Everything (except for the monsters on the cover) is reproduced at the exact same size that it was drawn.
